In this week's installment of "It's Not All About The Coffee," we chat to (insert drumroll), Leigh Wentzel.
Having been with Rosetta for six years, Leigh has done it all. Today he shares some of what he's learnt during his time here — and we'll give you a hint, it's not about coffee. It's about you!
Having recently completed his Honours in Psychology, it's not hard to see the connection. Or is it?
ROSETTA: Introduce yourself to us and tell us what you do at Rosetta / how long have you been working there?
LEIGH: My name is Leigh Wentzel. I’ve been working for Rosetta for about six years. I’ve done every position available at this roastery, and am the current Roastery Manager.
ROSETTA: What are some of the best things about being a part of the Rosetta team?
LEIGH: I think it’s just how all of our goals align, the chemistry we have behind the bar, and how close-knit the whole team is. It is a personal ‘touch’ to my journey with Rosetta.
ROSETTA: Do you have other passions outside of coffee?
LEIGH: I’m passionate about a lot of other things — Cooking, etc. Working for Rosetta has gotten me interested in a lot of niche things. Wine, Cooking, baking — it's all stemmed from the work that I do.
ROSETTA: What are has the pursuit of excellence in your coffee taught you about everything else that you pursue?
LEIGH: Well, I think. Rosetta has always been about learning — pushing yourself and being curious about everything that you do. There are a lot of small elements that I’ve taken from my 'education' here and put it into something else that I do. Working for Rosetta isn’t just about the doing; it’s about the why. The level of responsibility that has been placed on us as Rosetta employees is part of the expectation that I’ve put on myself.
ROSETTA: Your standards have been lifted by working for Rosetta, where do you see yourself in the future?
LEIGH: Working in the hospitality industry has opened my eyes to a part of the company that I now see as important. I have just finished my post-grad in Industrial Psychology and HR, and it’s pushed me to pursue people management and find out what makes the team great. That’s what I’ve taken from working here. The guys at Rosetta have supported me. We are on the same page — growing the company and growing each employee personally. That is important for any company, and it is something I’m newly passionate about.
