This lot of Catuai was grown at the most favourable altitude for this particular variety. The inherent sweetness of the coffee favours a lengthened development, giving way to a cup with exceptional body but not at the expense of clarity of flavour - a superb option for espresso based beverages.
Marysabel Caballero and her husband Moises Herrera are 2nd and 3rd generation farmers whose names are almost synonymous with Honduran quality coffee. Her father, Don Fabio, was one of the pioneers of coffee cultivation in the country - ameliorating the reputation of Honduran quality coffees.
Committed to environmental sustainability and continually seeking to uplift the community, they invest significant time and resources towards new equipment and improving their farming practices. Their main cultivar being Catuai, they do grow a range of varieties making use of various processing techniques. They cultivate a variety of produce including oranges, avocados, flowers, bananas and other fruits alongside their coffee lots. This is primarily for the pickers to eat as well as creating biodiversity on the farms - ensuring good shade for the coffee trees.
As a consequence of their efforts, their coffees regularly feature in the Cup of Excellence auctions and have featured as high as 3rd place in the prestigious SCAA “Coffee of the Year” competitions.
